A Grave Condition (Close to the Heart Songs, 2016, Kerry Belcher, all rights reserved)

A little time in the graveyard does a man a lot of good. Solomon said, “It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; and the living should take this to heart. Ecl. 7:2

Walking by an ancient graveyard, staring holes through misty walls, pondering my future and my past, suddenly my gaze was fixed on a marble stone covered in moss, his words were plain and somewhat stained, relayed his gain and loss-it read
Chorus

“I am in a grave condition, dead as doornails, hard as stone, all that kept me from Perdition is the grace of God alone, once I thought that I had power in my back, my legs, my arms Now you see that I am nothing, and can’t move you by my charms since ere long or maybe sooner, you will join me where I lie, see to it that Christ’s your keeper while you live, so when you die Your condition won’t be grave as you trust in Him to save”

v2 As I pondered on that poem, my heart felt the elegy, for those words pre and post mortem are all clearly true for me Seconds, minutes days or hours-years may pass before I cry; death pulls everyone towards it-to the ground and to the sky Will the judgment day I fear or will these sweet words my ears hear?

“Welcome home! you are no stranger to My throne room and My gaze oft I heard your voice, it beckoned Me to help you in dire straits You were faithful with the little I entrusted to your care You will be in Heaven’s choir and you’ll sing My praises there All your tears I will dry for you All your questions answered here every little thing you suffered will be repaid so do not fear I am mighty, child, to save your condition- is not grave!”
