Holy Host (Close to the Heart Songs, 2016, Kerry Belcher, all rights reserved)

“Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”
– Hebrews 12:1
Here is a song built around a verse, the theme being taught throughout Scripture. It’s such a great line that Jerry Clower, the Southern Comedian used it often to explain why he did so well playing football. It’s the same for us!
When dark surrounds me, when fear o’er takes me troubled thoughts and fears are layered on the next And peace comes swiftly, the moments quickly deliver trouble yet my faint heart’s not perplexed I think of others who fought this battle and many blessed saints who have gone on before That wore this armour, fought, died and cried out, “Everything to bless the Lord whom I adore”. Chorus I know a Holy Host of others standing around me I’m not alone in all my fears, His love will dry these bitter tears I see God’s army, encamped around me-A Holy Host surrounds and cheers me with their love v2 Like little Allie who minds her Mama like widow Pat who always has enough to share- An unseen army stoops down to show us that washing feet’s the way to Heaven if we dare We’re not an island, we are connected-so pray the Spirit of our Lord and King comes down and lights the fire of Heaven’s hymnal of every Saint that drew a breath or made a sound Chorus
