Live to Fight Another Day (Close to the Heart Songs, 2016, Kerry Belcher, all rights reserved)

A lot of time and effort was given on this project to remember, celebrate and posit to future generations the tremendous value of godly, Parents and Grandparents. As I’ve focused on Dad to tell this tale the last couple of recordings, (because of his recent passing) I certainly didn’t want to leave out Mama who was always there, always on call and always a great balancing partner for Dad. Dad was very careful but he loved to see his kids go for it. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” he told me many times. But pretty often, Mom would remind us that each man has his limitations.

V1 Woke up Monday morning ready for a fight Pushing hard to show ‘em all who’s right
Every single second got my teeth in a full grind-gotta’ turn it on to pull up from behind
Just when the finish line is drawing near-I hear my Mama whispering in my ear
Chorus1 you’re not a hero son, don’t put it to the test give it all a little rest
Don’t crash and burn, watch and pray Live to Fight another day
V2 I go to work every day like I’m fighting fire For 12 or 14 hours I don’t tire
God told us what our hands find, do with all our might, work all day before it’s night
But then the voice of moderation speaks Mama’s words flow down my face in two wet streaks Chorus2 you’re not a robot son, no matter what you make push too hard and something’s gonna break Don’t crash and burn, watch and pray live to fight another day Chorus 3 You’re not a hero son, no matter how you try, push too hard and something’s going to fry Don’t crash and burn, watch and pray, live to fight another day
